As a parent, it can feel like you’re always taking kids to the dentist for a cavity filling. Kids love their sweets, after all, and those treats have a knack for creating cavities. The good news, however, is that there are a lot of different ways you can help prevent your kids from getting cavities.
These tips are time-tested from our observations as we’ve worked in the dental world. They may not work for all kids, but we’re positive that you’ll find something here that can help improve your kids’ oral health. So, let’s take a look at a few of these tips!
Make brushing fun
If you can find a way to make brushing teeth fun, your kids will be excited to brush morning and night. The trick, of course, is figuring out how to make it fun. A great option is giving out awards for whoever has the cleanest teeth, or for whoever has the longest streak of brushing without being reminded by mom or dad.
Teach them to floss
Once your kids are old enough, you’ll also want to teach them how to floss. This is a great way to get rid of cavity potential, and there are ways to make this fun as well. Different kinds of floss – usually emblazoned with cartoon characters – are available to help you make this fun for your kids.
You’ll also want to make sure that you’re doing all of these activities, too. Kids learn by example, so if you set a good one of oral health, they’ll likely follow suit.
