Accidents happen, and a dental emergency can occur at any time. Have you thought about what you will do when your child needs emergency dental treatment? At Treasured Smiles Children’s Dentistry, Duane C. Clouse, PC, we will always make can accommodate emergencies, but there are things you can do until we can see your child.

When an Object Is Lodged in the Teeth
You can gently rinse or brush around the tooth or use dental floss to dislodge something that is caught in the teeth. Do not use a toothpick or sharp instrument. If you can’t safely remove the object, bring your child in to see us.

When a Tooth Is Knocked-Out
Find the tooth and be sure to pick it up by the crown and avoid touching the root! Rinse it carefully under water on low pressure. If it is a permanent tooth and you can put it back in the socket, do so. Have your child gently bite down on it through a clean piece of gauze and come into the office as soon as you can. If you can’t put the tooth back in the socket, place it in a container of milk and bring it with you when you bring your child to the office.

A Broken, Chipped or Fractured Tooth
Wash out the mouth and damaged area with water, then use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any part of the tooth fragment and call to come see us immediately.

If You Suspect a Broken Jaw
If you believe your child may have broken jaw, take them to the emergency room immediately.
