Getting kids interested in their oral health isn’t the easiest job you have as a parent. Most kids don’t like brushing their teeth, making this difficult. However, you can’t let that get in the way of how important it is to establish good oral health habits for your kids as early on in life as possible.

To help you achieve this, our team here at Treasured Smiles Children’s Dentistry, Duane C. Clouse, PC has a few tips for how you can get kids to achieve a good oral health routine.

Get them in early

The earlier your kids visit our Treasured Smiles Children’s Dentistry, Duane C. Clouse, PC office in Maricopa, Arizona, the better. They should see a dentist when they get their first tooth or on their first birthday – whichever comes first. The reason to get them in early is that bringing kids to the dentist early in life helps establish the dentist – and oral health – as an important part of life.

Make brushing fun

You can come up with some sort of reward your kids get if they brush twice a day for a week (just make sure it’s not sugary treats!) to help them want to brush. There are a million different incentives you can provide your kids with to help them want to brush their teeth.

Teach them to floss

Flossing is one of the most important parts of an oral health routine that’s often overlooked, even by adults. Teaching your kids to floss will help them have better oral health, and if you get them the individually-packaged flossers, they may enjoy flossing more.
